Whether you’re the world’s best and most careful driver or whether there’s a little bit of the race car driver in you, M&M Insurance Associates has you covered.
M&M offers multiple types of coverage that can be tailored to everyone’s needs, whether you need insurance just for you or for your entire family.
- Different types of coverage
Full Coverage – Covers both accidents that are caused by humans as well as accidents caused by nature
Liability – Only protects the other vehicle in an accident, not yours
Broad Form – Protects the driver and does not need to be attached to a vehicle
SR-22 – A certificate proving insurance coverage – typically required after an accident or other issue
Think about the amount of coverage you want. Leticia Mejias, co-owner of M&M Insurance Associates, explains that in the state of Nebraska, the minimum required is 25/50, which means you have up to $25,000 for a single person or $50,000 total coverage per accident.
“When you think about it, most new and some used cars retail for at least $25,000. That means the 25/50 coverage may not be enough,” said Mejias.
It’s important to have auto insurance. If you have an accident and don’t have enough insurance, a judge could impose garnishment on your future earnings.
According to Mejias, sometimes just raising the limits on your policy to at least 100/300 doesn’t make your premium increase as much as you might think.
“Protect what you have and transfer the risk to the insurance company,” she said.
Auto carriers
All auto insurance carriers will take your driving record into account as well as prior claims you’ve had against any policy you’ve owned in the past three years.
It’s possible they may take into account the driving records of everyone living in the same household.
Discounts are available through each carrier for things like:
- Having prior coverage for a minimum of six months
- Good credit
- Clean driving record
- Age
- Marital status
- Student
- Place of employment
- Bundling or combining of policies (life, home, auto)
Mejias said M&M mainly offers auto policies through MetLife, The Hartford, Allied, Safeco, Progressive, Dairyland and Foremost.
“Metlife, Hartford and Allied are big players and have great packages if you have a good driving record, good credit and want full coverage” said Mejias.
She said Progressive is good if you don’t have the best credit or the best driving record. They also offer great discounts if you can pay your premium in one payment.
Foremost is a good middle compromise as they take fair credit with a fair driving record and an SR-22.
Dairyland is very good and very affordable if you just want liability. Mejias explained they have the best SR-22 prices.
Honesty is the best policy
Be honest with insurance carriers. You can’t expect to go in and get a low premium if you know you or your spouse might have two speeding tickets, a claim from a year ago, a low credit score and have defaulted on your last insurance policy.
Each company does things just a little bit differently. Some will offer towing and rental at lower rates than others. Perhaps they will raise your rates when your teen receives his or her driver’s permit. Maybe they offer accident forgiveness. It’s essential to find out all the information you can when selecting an auto insurance policy.
